Did you hear about the Morgans makes The Proposal seem like a rom-com masterpiece. It's becoming quite predictable to say a rom-com is predictable so leaving that aggravating factor aside-this film is one heck of a dull, monotonous affair to forget.
Poorly written situational comedy that involve bears and horses, lackluster performances from the two leads, dull characters who seem jaded by life and a very conventional if not convenient story line that makes you groan again and again. Grant and Parker, a separated couple in one of their "lets figure out our marriage" dinners happen to witness a murder. The killer sees them and gosh the two ex-lovers see his mug as well. When the Fed realize that the killer's out to cover his tracks (and I'm still wondering about the details like why the murder took place? and who was the big daddy behind it all?) Anyways the Fed's put them in a witness protection program that takes them to the middle of nowhere. Just what the doctor ordered- some alone time for the couple where they get to fight, scream, hash out their differences like why Grant was unfaithful to Parker etc etc leading of course to the kiss and makeup saga. Now aside from the crawling pace of the film that has too much down time for it's own good, there is simply no dramatic tension between the couple-Grant and Parker discuss their relationship issues like they are talking about the weather for crying out loud.
Sarah Jessica Parker is getting painfully one-note as an actor. Someone's got to spell it out-Ms. Parker your not on the sets of Sex in the City and your not playing the part of Carrie Bradshaw here!!! As for Hugh Grant-he's a charismatic personality but one gets the sense that's he's been underutilized. Mainly on show for the occasional one line witty inserts and those too are in short supply.
And yes you just don't want to hear about the Morgans when you think of the absolutely non-existent chemistry between the couple-quite counter productive since the entire premise of this "lost and found love story" hinges on us rooting for the match.
What a bore!!! TRASH IT
