It was a muggy day in Mumbai and while the two of us were chatting movies and arguing viewpoints (as usual!), Neha suddenly said something in jest that struck a cinematic chord, so to speak. "If there can be a Julie & Julia why can't there be a Neha & Ira?" The seed was planted. Within minutes, we were like two delirious movie geeks, figuring out how to set a real challenge for ourselves with an equally demanding time line to conquer it.
After much back and forth and some animated brainstorming, we decided to take one of the most respected and definitive lists of the best movies of all time, The American Film Institute's (AFI) 2007 Edition of the 100 greatest American movies, and launch a new online initiative.
Join us in our New Year resolution to complete the "Chicks on Flicks AFI Project" where we review each and every film on the AFI list on our blog!
This is a journey that we hope will be as enriching and exciting for you, as it will be for us. We look forward to revisiting some of the finest films ever made and to doing what we love doing best, talking movies.
The Challenge: 100 films in 52 weeks
The Idea: Individual reviews by Neha & Ira posted each Friday on our blog i.e cof.pixtelevision.com
The Method: Starting from 100 going to 1
The Frequency: 2 movies each week starting FEBUARY 5th, 2010.
The Deadline: 5th February, 2011
So save the list below, stock up on your DVD's, renew those library memberships and prepare yourself to relish and embrace the best of American cinema. Ready...Set... Go!

Cool project!
I usually don't watch the program. But when I heard that you folks are doing AFI 100 list, I found myself interested.
I am doing IMDB 250 list with almost 150 done! As most of the movies in AFI 100 are also on IMDB list, it'll be interesting to check out your thoughts. All the best!
BTW, I started my project in July 2008 and intend to finish by Dec 2010 :)
Hey Ira and Neha.......u both doing a gr88 job.....specially the Cash It Trash It thing...... :) saves a lot of tym when it comes to opting the best out of good.....thanks a lot...achin
Thanks a Million for having doing such a wonderful thing. I am a student of film and have learnt a lot from your review on films.
Looking forward to this Great & Exciting review on Best 100 Films
Um.... I don't think the movie critics is that favorable for me, you know it kind of rubbish to see Indians you see, Indians criticizing Hollywood movies I dont think they have watched even a single Hollywood movies and they are blabbing to the world about how Good or Bad the Hollywood movies(thinks their Bollywood movies are just that great where some or the other certain clips of their movies are cheated from Hollywood movies its Plagiarism, those guys from Hollywood must sue them)are with their damn F@$#%*g trash and catch it thing, am saying all this because it hurts to see our favorite movies being trashed by their little selfless knowledge about Hollywood movies. Their movie criticism are little to overboard, Ira and Neha right? I like to advice both of you that we fans of Hollywood are enraged with your movie criticism things, so you ladies better watch out k, Sorry Ladies you both SUCK... Go to hell!!!!
Um when is this project starting?..i'm waiting!
it is good and i am waiting for it.
Good luck with this project. I admire both your insights on movies. I must say i have no complaints reason being we have similar thought process. Regardless keep up the good job. <3<3
I always had a fascination for best movie lists and apart from the imdb 250 list i have always admired the AFI 100 list among others . I m seriously going after these list and have already covered the entire imdb 250 list leaving a couple and seen close to 92 movies from the AFI list . Its good to see that these movies are going to be discussed on your show and more movie buffs will be able to know about these gems . Hopefully indians will switch to more meaningful movies like those on the list than just sticking to the usual commercial stuff like transformers or 2012. And Hopefully you people will give these movies the respect that they deserve.
Good luck with that.
I've seen around 50 of those and hope to complete it soon.
been watching your show on Pix for the past few months ....the top 100 countdown should be quite interesting once you get down to the top 50...wanna see your critique on those movies which sort of became the gold standard for everything that followed...All the best - will catch up on the telly
Yogesh
Aki I totally agree with you .... Ira and Neha GO TO HELL...you are useless and got no brains....seriously...GET A LIFE and STOP BORING the normal people...PLEASE...
The only reason for me to get on this blog was to make a point that YOU SUCK at reviewing movies... stick to Dumb modeling or something like watching over chickens
omg gimme a break u guys r sayin dat no new movie deserves to be here are u guys tryin to show ur sophistication or something by writing such old movies names its not cool the sound effects the acting no one will enjoy it lot of things hav chngd u cannot judge there r so less movies of today and more of past i mean why do u want to waste our time noone is gonna watch "PSYCHO" wid dat dumb overacting and sound effects dat r horrible .......... dont forget most of the movies dat u hav mentioned were hit or classic in dat ERA ...... still i follow ur show regularly so i will try some of them
Hi,
Where can we rent these 100 movies in Pune ?
Thanks,
Hi,
Critics job (if to be done honestly) is a tough one, very few choose to be a critic. All the best in your carrer.
I have never belived in commenting on movies as I belive each of us have different taste. Some people would like a movie very much, but at the same time there would be guys and gals who would have negative opinions on the same.
However, I still think this is a good platform to discuss, know how different people feel about a movie.
When are you starting the project?
I am sure, we may not be able to lay our hands on complete 100 movies, most of it we may have seen, yet will try to look into most on them.
Regards,
Mahadev
Hey u have got a pretty well rounded list of movies in there, but it would have been better if you could add some of the international movies like The Bicycle Thief (which is one of the best classics of all times), Fellini's insightful 8½, Bergman's Wild Strawberries or even the recent Lives of Others!
Cause some of the movies on the AFI list are just overrated and seriously don't deserve a watch!
Anyway you guys have been doing a great job with the reviews and am surely looking forward for more of those.
Cheers,
~Rohan
OUTRAGEOUS!!!!
COMPLETELY OUTRAGEOUS!!!
No Nolan??
No Fincher??
Just A Tarantino.. That Also At 94???
Gimme A Break!!!
Make a better list people!
which means that there are better Directors than Nolan Fincher and Tarantino in Hollywood ......
Neha and Ira:
After each review of the AFI 100 movies, you can write how it did on boxoffice and on academy & other awards. Boxofficemojo.com will give you info on the box office performance. Thanks!
Hi,
Where can we rent these 100 movies in Chennai ?
All we can have in sony pix.
BETTER CHANNEL=BEST MOVIES.
Where i found myself interested.
hi,
am vivek, i have been watching hollywood movies since many years. so i feel i have a knowledge of around 2500 movies by now(i have long watched 80% of the AFI list :-)). i have prepared many lists of my own.i have observed that most of the movies that appears in the award winning lists are boring or somewhat in depth to analyse their inner meaning,(say for example citizen kane(it has a silly mistake too the kane couldnt find rosebud but at the end they will show that rosebud will be in his collection which are about to be burnt, but actually rosebud will be buried in the snow at his home. so if U are a avid movie watcher n want some exciting movies to watch which has good story and which makes some sense you can contact me to
vivekdrvicky@aol.com
i might be able to tell which movies to watch and where you can find them for free. if at all you couldnt find the websites which i specify i will provide direct links to my pc so that you all could access it.....
k take care
and about COF, i watch it most of the time, one suggestion to the show is u girls should review one old movie (say black N white )n tell it as 'old movie to watch this weekend'cause most of the old movies have good story and many love them still( i do). let me end it here. (i hope this gets
published )
vicky.

Greetings fellow movie lovers!
Thank you so much for your great response to the chicks on flicks AFI project!
Inderjeet thats fabulous; we must share our thoughts and who knows, neha and i might do IMDB next ;)
Achin & Girish, thank you so much we appreciate your support and are happy to be able to help
Rohan and tamal, couldnt agree with you more . do note this is an AFI ie American Films list so yes, PLENTY of GREAT films including foreign and our very own Satyajit Ray are not on there... will get to those as do believe they deserve their due.. and that Nolan & many others are worthy of review... more on rankings, lists and neha and my views once the project is complete. watch this space!
Vicky, while it would be super to have an old movie pick of the week on the show, we have to give you current stuff first and time doesnt permit an extra ie 5th film... we can consider mentioning a pick of the week but now as our AFI project has begun, we are going to be revisiting some great classics in any case so stay tuned and watch out for the end of the show where we mention the names of the films we are blogging about that week..
vivek, im afraid i am not sure where in chennai you will be able to source the films but i can suggest you try some of the more well equipped dvd libraries around? also, thanks to vicky for being a fellow movie lover who is willing to help!
Great stuff guys, keep writing, blogging on and tuning in every friday at 8 30 p.m!
the countdown has begun and things will get exciting with the Academy Awards just around the corner...
Cheers,
I am sure, whether one agrees or disagrees one does read the whole list and check on each entry. I am sure each one of us will have our own list. The best part of seeing a list is that you always find entries you have not seen or several you would like to see again. Neha and Ira, you are doing a good job. You should in fact attempt to do a list (25 or 100 does not matter) for each language in which films were ever made.
disappointed dat american beauty n lotr-return of the king r not on d list. hay n wen r ull reviewn oscar nominated movies?
Ladies, good job. I am also a big movie buff, and I must have watched 70% of the movies. However, there are many movies which should have made the list and are not there, like The Terminator,Wait Until Dark, The Hitcher, Bad Day at Blackrock, etc. There are some movies that should not have made the list like Vertigo. Hitchcock's Dial M for Murder is a superior product. To each is own, I guess!

hey neha and ira....u guys are doing a gr8 job....coz it really helps....but one suggestion...it would be good if you could look a little bit less seductive....coz u steal attention away from the movie reviews....lol...
imdb.com is the only place to go for the reviews and ratings of the international motion picture.
The opinion of the entire world is always fairer and more accurate than a couple of individuals.
hey 'vivekdrvicky' good job watching all those movies . I am a english movie buff myself and have watched as many movies as you have and never thought there would b some one else . good to know there are.
The show is good for indian standards and the they both give decent reviews though i would recommend 'rottentomates' and 'metacritic' for the best reviews
good will hunting, fight club, gladiater, memento, million dollar baby should definetly be on the list!
E.T. was a 1982 film not 1942 :P
My best wishes for ur project.. Have trusted imdb.com and rottentomatoes.com for all the reviews till now.. but its good to have an indian site.. hope it's a great success.. The list of top-100 also looks good (not that i agree with al of them, but then that's impossible). Before i saw the top 100 list i knew it will have the godfather, gone with the wind etc etc.. i said let me check if it has one of the best westerns ever - 'the unforgiven'.. just a case of testing the list randomly.. i found the name there at # 62 and i said this list can be trusted..
Ira & Neha, you two are doing a gr8 job by reviewing these top class movies.Gr8 going.
Yaa,Tis movie is 1 of d greatest romantic pot-boiler wit a dream cast & crew.John Huston won an 0scar way back as dir for "Treasure of the Sierra Madre(48) & another of his greatest noir movie 'D Maltese Falcon'(41) were marketed ingenously, both *ing Bogart r movie landmarks. But 'TAQ' considering the huge stars & production,d movie is not given its due in India, the DVD Rights have been acquired by SHEMAROO dealing in B-grade H'wood movies wit no xtra memorabilia, which is 1 good reason for buying a DVD.D producer,d great Sam Spiegel of the David Lean movie's 'D Bridge on the River Kwai'(57) & 'Lawrence of Arabia'(62) fame, must b turning in his grave grave for such a shabby treatment meted out to tis great movie.Well I liked d way u've summed up tis great movie & u 2 r doing a great job for all d Indian H'wood movie connoisseurs. Regards Nandan Sharma.
Hi,Did u know tat d term "Chick Flicks" r referred 2 Movies which r weepies or movies wit sad endings, mostly Romantic tear- jerkers. It can b stated as a sub-genre.U 2 r doing gr8.It's only d 2nd time in Indian TV history, d 1st was started by our retd I&B Secy,Bhaskar Ghosh who could'nt carry on due 2(wit all due respect) his lesser knowledge of d H'wood history. But u 2 r carrying on ur programme wit gr8 aplomb. Thanx 4 ur effort & wish u success in d coming yrs. Regards Nandan Sharma.
