Spike Jonz is back - the very talented guy who made BEING JOHN MALKOVICH & ADAPTATION brings us a film that hasnt received any attention from us here in india!
released in october in the US and in December in the UK we are still hopeful it will hit the screens here anon...
im talking about the live action adaptation of MAURIC SENDACK'S classic childrens book- WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE!
check out the awesome trailer (apple trailers or U tube) nd you'll know why im getting excited. the film has received positive reviews across the board and from what sounds like a fantastic sountrack to what looks like a modern day wizard of oz meets 21st century disturbia, childhood dreams and familial affirmations, the film creates a fantasy wonderland thats as bizarre as it is real... worth a watch on the big screen.
The film tells the story of Max, a unruly but sensitive boy who feels misunderstood at home and escapes to where the Wild Things are. Max lands on an island where he meets mysterious and strange creatures whose emotions are as wild and unpredictable as their actions... (note these monsters are voiced by some of Hollywoods big male names including Mark Ruffalo & James Gandolfini!!) not surprisingly, The Wild Things are longing for a leader to guide them, just as Max longs for a kingdom to rule. When Max is crowned king (cutely dressed in a bunny suit in the film), he promises to create a place where everyone will be happy. but things arent as easy as they look...
the sepia tinted, glowing yet dark world Jonz has created looks intriguing and young actor MAX RECORDS looks like he will make for a very watchable, engaging hero...
my favourite: the monsters and their amazingly real looking faces!
