THE FINAL DESTINATION TO WHERE?- BORE-VILLE

Welcome to the only way studios feel they can entertain audiences today- out with genuine horror- what I like to call Psychological terror and in with gorror-gore for gore sake-where story, characters, transitions are no longer drivers but slashing, blood and guts splashed over celluloid and flying heads are pretty much whats on offer-a choppy, lazy script that's all about stitching together one death sequence after another-and with no real emotions invested in the cardboard characters further made even more robotic by some stiff performances by the young cast of unknowns-I did not even care who lived, died or had their brains blown out.

Director David Ellis who made the forgettable FINAL DESTINATION 2 gets another opportunity for another gore fest- but sadly he doesn' t try to do anything different for the film, franchise or for us- who have had the misfortune of sitting through 4 installments-each one getting progressively hollower and dumber-no spunk, no momentum, no clever antics to execute the death sequences-this one's quite literally only got the hardware of special effects in place-the software, the passion and the ingenuity is in one word...ABSENT.

Being the only theatrical release this week- it got us thinking about how the genre has over the years lost its edge, studious are churning out either remakes of classics or trying to replicate successful Asian horror flicks. It's getting boring. So Ira and I took a walk down memory age and put together three films- one from the 60's- the groundbreaking PSYCHO, another from the 80's- the chilling THE SHINING and one that would probably define the new age GEN X trend of gorror on film- Eli Roth's HOSTEL.

you can catch detailed reviews of the above on CHICKS ON FLICKS- remember its now on at 8.30 PM on FRIDAY.
